At-Home Puppy & Dog Vaccinations in Melbourne's West

No carrier, no car, no waiting room. Whether your puppy needs their first course or your dog is due a booster, Dr Winnie comes to you and vaccinates them on their own floor while they're calm.

Dr Winnie comes to you

For most dogs, the hard part of a vaccination isn't the needle. It's the carrier, the car, and a waiting room full of other animals. At home, none of that happens.

Dr Winnie is a mobile vet based in Wyndham Vale, visiting homes across Melbourne's western suburbs. She's the one who answers the phone, and the one who turns up. If she's met your dog before, they'll already know her.

A vet since 2007 (BVSc, University of Queensland), with experience across emergency medicine, teaching-hospital surgery and general practice. Fear Free certified, now a full-time home vet based in Wyndham Vale, so a routine visit comes with real diagnostic depth.

What a vaccination protects against

A vaccination teaches your dog's immune system to fight off serious diseases before it ever meets them. Some, like parvovirus, are still around in Australia and can be fatal, especially in puppies.

C3 (core) protects against Parvovirus, Distemper and Canine Hepatitis (adenovirus), C5 adds Kennel Cough (bordetella + parainfluenza)

Most family dogs need the C5, because boarding, daycare, puppy school and dog parks usually require it. If your dog never mixes with others, C3 may be enough. Dr Winnie will tell you which, rather than default to the bigger one.

Puppy Vaccinations

A puppy's early protection from their mum fades over the first few months, so they need a short course to build their own.

First Adult booster

Keep your newly vaccinated puppy away from unvaccinated dogs and public areas (parks, footpaths, anywhere dogs toilet) until about a week after that final shot. You can still socialise safely in the meantime: at home, in your own yard, and with dogs you know are vaccinated. That early window matters, so don't keep them shut away entirely.

If you've just brought a puppy home, book the first visit and Dr Winnie will map out the whole course with you.

Adult Dog Vaccinations

Once the puppy course and the 12-month booster are done, your dog needs a check-up every year, though not every part of the vaccination is given every year. Kennel cough is given annually. The core components are often only needed every three years, and Dr Winnie tracks it so your dog gets what they actually need.

The yearly visit is also a full health check, which is often where small problems get caught early.Overdue? Common, and usually an easy fix. If it's been a while, Dr Winnie will tell you whether your dog can carry on or needs to restart the short course. Just mention it when you book.

Questions families often ask

  • When should my puppy start, and how many shots?

Usually three, starting around 6–8 weeks and finishing by about 16 weeks, then a booster at 12 months.

  • When can my puppy go outside?

About a week after the final puppy shot. Until then, keep them off public ground but socialise safely at home and with vaccinated dogs.

  • Does my adult dog need it every year?

A yearly check, yes, but not every part every year. Kennel cough is annual, and core components are often every three years.

  • What's the difference between C3 and C5?

C3 covers parvovirus, distemper and hepatitis. C5 adds kennel cough. Most family dogs get the C5, because anywhere dogs mix usually requires it.

  • Are vaccinations safe?

Yes. Serious reactions are rare. Most dogs are fine, with maybe a quiet evening.

  • Is a home visit really calmer?

That's why most people book her. No carrier, no car, no waiting room. And she's Fear Free certified, so she moves at your dog's pace.

  • What if my dog is overdue?

Common, and usually an easy fix. Dr Winnie will tell you whether to carry on or restart the short course.
